Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit our fundraising site in honour of our gorgeous daughter Aya Willow.

Aya was born on July 16th suffering from severe meconium aspiration syndrome. This is caused by the inhalation of meconium (baby poo) into the lungs during labour and the resulting infection in the body. After spending three days in the Trevor Mann Baby Unit, ten days in Great Ormond Street and four weeks in the Royal Alexandra children's hospital Aya was finally sent home for four months of home oxygen therapy in August. She is now totally oxygen free and a smiley healthy baby girl.

We are immensely grateful for the amazing care we received from these institutions and want to do something to help other sick babies and children. We are aiming to raise £8,000 to pay for a new ventilator for the High Dependency Unit in the Royal Alex Children's hospital. At the moment the unit does not have enough ventilators and need to prioritise which patients to ventilate based on patient need. Aya was on a ventilator for 5 weeks and her life depended on this technology.

The Aya Willow challenge is a Hike-Road Cycle-Mountain Cycle combo being carried out by close friends and family in May 2018. The plan is:

13th May - Hike up Scafell Pike with little Aya Willow
14th May to 17th May - Kendal to Winchester road bike cycle
18th May to 19th May - Winchester to Devils Dyke South Downs Way mountain bike cycle.

Any donations great and small gratefully received. We spent the most amount of time in hospitals supported by the Rockinghorse appeal so we are donating all proceeds to this Brighton based charity. Any questions please feel free to get in touch.
