Story

Hi All,

Thank you for visiting our Just Giving page, where we are raising funds and awareness for Alzheimer Scotland by climbing Mount Kilimanjaro!

The Challenge...

Mount Kilimanjaro is one of the most impressive sights in Africa and climbing Kilimanjaro is a truly great challenge. Rising majestically from the Savannah lands of northern Tanzania, Kilimanjaro soars to an impressive 5,895m high peak. It's the highest mountain in Africa and the largest free-standing mountain in the world....

Itinerary:

Day 1 – Depart the UK for our overnight flight to Arusha.

Day 2 – Transfer to the hotel in Arusha. Briefing and equipment check with each participant to be sure that everyone is fully prepared.

Day 3 – Machame Gate to Machame Hut Camp – 3,100m. 2hr transfer to Machame Gate where you register and start your challenge! Trekking distance – approx. 18km / 5-7 hours

Day 4 – Machame Hut Camp to Shira Camp – 3,840m. Trekking distance – approx. 9km / 4–6 hours

Day 5 – Shira Camp to Barranco Camp – 3,900m. Trekking distance – approx. 15km / 6–7 hours

Day 6 – Barranco Camp to Karanga Valley Camp – 4,100m. Trekking distance – approx. 6km / 3–4 hours

Day 7 – Karanga Valley Camp to Barafu Hut Camp – 4,600m. You will reach the camp then it’s an early dinner before getting your head down, as you will be woken at 11pm for the summit attempt! Trekking distance – approx. 11km / 4 – 6 hours

Day 8 – Barafu Hut Camp to Uhuru Peak – 5,896m. Leaving the camp at 12am and reaching the summit by about 6 or 7am, Then descend to Mweka. Trekking distance – approx 6 km / 6-7 hours to Uhuru Peak Trekking distance – approx 16km / 6-8 hours to Mweka Camp

Day 9 – Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate. Then transfer to your hotel in Arusha to relax with a nice hot shower or cool dip in the swimming pool! Celebrate your achievements with a farewell dinner. Trekking distance – approx. 12km / 4-5 hours.

Day 10 – Depart to the airport for flight to UK.

Day 11 – Arrive back in the UK.
