Story

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to read all about our fundraising event 😘

We are Bristol’s very own LGBTQ+ football club and have been affiliated with the Bristol City Robins Foundation since 2018 😊

We are more than just a football club!  We are a FAMILY of Panthers, who love and support each other, on and off the pitch!

During our club night at the Queenshilling on 21/02/2020 as the clock strikes midnight, a group from Bristol City Panthers will be taking it in turns to lip sync for their lives in front of a packed club!

.... dressed in Drag!

Oh and I will be hosting dressed as Marlow-ificent 😉 well my surnames Marlow so why not eh 😂

Bit of background for you 🤗

Each year we do a club fundraising night at the Queenshilling (a brilliant Venue who support the LGBTQ+ community) to keep ourselves going for another year!

But we also like to raise money for great causes close to our hearts ❤️

Last year we raised over £1,500 for Maggie’s - a charity who have been so supportive to Chris (our ex-captain who has a life limiting cancer diagnosis).

This year we are going to raise money for a fantastic local Charity called OTR, which stands for ’Off The Record’.

OTR is a mental health social movement by and for young people aged 11-25 living in Bristol and South Gloucestershire.

We have asked OTR to allocate all funds raised on this page to Freedom.

Freedom is OTR’s gender and sexuality social action project, offering group sessions, advice and counselling - including on mental health, gender and sexuality.

Here at the Panthers - these issues resonate on so many levels and we want to help keep these vital services going!

Here’s what some of us had to say...

“I've struggled with episodes of poor mental health (specifically anxiety) most of my adult life. I know first hand how vital LGBT inclusive mental health support services are when I've needed help to look after myself and build my resilience back up. Services like On The Record are vital for young LGBT people in the Bristol area, and I'm so proud that the Bristol City Panthers are raising funds for them this February”  - Panthers Centre Back -  JD ❤️

“Mental health is important not just to me but to everyone, and anyone who needs mental health support, the panthers have helped me through a tough time in my life after having recently coming out this year, it was a total shock to both my friends and family but the panthers have supported me on and off the pitch whether it’s been a shoulder to listen at training or support over a text or phone call, the Panthers are very welcoming and are basically my second family, I would not be where I am today if would not be for the love and support from every member of the team” - Panthers Goal Keeper - Adam Fozzard ❤️

And finally our Chairman....and Panthers Defender

“The LGBT+ community is disproportionately affected with mental health difficulties, and that is equally true for many at Bristol City Panthers. The club provides a family and support network to all its members, and that community and focus can prove vital in dark moments.

We are proud to ask for donations for our annual fundraiser to go to the Freedom Project at OTR Bristol, to help support young and vulnerable LGBT+ people within our wider community” - Rob ❤️

A Massive thank you for taking the time to read my epic ramble 😉 and anything you can donate would be amazing!

We are planning to get out and visit OTR and the work they do in the coming weeks so watch this space for some updates and posts!

Lots of Love

Tom - Panthers Right Wing Back

Xx
