Story

Christmas is a magical time for most children... all the presents...and the magic of theatre! By the age of 10 most children have been to see at least one Christmas shows with their schools or family.  But what would you say if I told you that for some children the only present they will ever have for Christmas is... the magic of theatre?

And it is indeed a great present, but we have to help make it happen. Not only because it will be their only present but because it can change their lives.

And this is how, let me tell you a story...

Once upon a time, far, far way, almost in the very south of the African continent, we find a country called Zambia... where there is a charity organisation called Barefeet which works with children at risk of becoming disengaged from their communities. Barefeet helps children who are living on the streets or at risk of becoming street children to transform their lives. The Christmas show is a recurring event that brings a bit of magic to the Christmas of street children in Lusaka. Not only do we give them a spectacular show and a present from Santa, we also bring them into contact with different orphanages and former street children. Those former street children are now professional performers at Barefeet and are a shining example of how arts can change your life. Check the movie in the picture section to learn more about their personal stories.

This year...

We have invited a guest to contribute, theatre director Montserrat Gili is going to join us here in Lusaka to help us make the show a reality. We hear this year's show will be inspired by cult film Labyrinth (yes, the one with David Bowie)! We are excited and so are our young performers.

In order to make this magical event happen we need your help.

Your contribution will go towards the presents for the children, transport, the food, the rent of the theatre, the costumes, lights and other expenses. By only contributing 5 pounds you can enable one street child to receive a Christmas dinner, watch the show, participate in the workshop and come into contact with orphanages and ex – street children. The show runs from the 2nd to 6th of December 2013, please send us your donations before December 2nd to make sure we raise the curtains to a packed house of excited young faces. Thank you!

-        Donate £5 and you'll receive a warm feeling inside knowing that 1 child will be enjoying their Christmas show, presents and a special Barefeet workshop

-        Donate £10 and you'll receive an even warmer feeling that will make you smile all day knowing that 2 children will enjoy Christmas

-        Donate £ 40 and as well as receiving a warm feeling inside, you'll go to sleep knowing that Karma has something good in store for you for helping 5 children to see the show, and dress 1 performer

-     Donate £60 or more, and as well as receiving a warm feeling inside, you'll have good Karma for the whole of 2014!

-     Donate £100 or more... and as well as all the above... you'll have good Karma for a very long time and our most sincere gratitude and you'll know that you MADE THIS HAPPEN.
