Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page - again!
It has now been a few years since I ran the length of the Cotswold Way and even longer ago that I ran the South Downs Way. In both cases I ran to raise funds for Action for A-T, a charity set up by my friends to raise awareness of and to fund research into Ataxia Telangiectasia, a devastating and little known neurodegenerative disease which their daughter, Evie, was diagnosed with shortly before we moved to Bath.
You have all been so supportive of me in my efforts to raise funds over the years and I feel a little guilty asking for more...so I have decided to up the stakes a little!
Challenge 1
At 5.00am on 22 September 2018, I will set of from Betws-y-coed aiming to complete the GB Ultras Mt. Snowdon 100, a 106 mile ultramarathon through the Snowdonia National Park. The run involves a total ascent of 29,199ft (but the downhills will hurt more) and, amongst others, involves climbs of Snowdon, Tryfan (x2), the Glyders and Pen yr Ole Wen (x2). I might be running non-stop for 35 hours, possibly with no sleep and definitely with lots of discomfort. www.gbultras.com
Challenge 2
At 8.00am on 12 January 2019, I will then set off from Edale in the Peak District, having been lucky enough? to gain a place in the Montane Spine race series. I will be trying to complete 'The Challenger' a 108 mile route along the Pennine Way to Hardraw in the Dales in the depths of Winter. The Challenger is a self sufficient race (there is one checkpoint in 108 miles) meaning that I will have to carry my main kit including a sleeping bag, bivvy, food, water, a stove, ice spikes and an emergency distress unit for mountain rescue! The Challenger is a brutal, brutal race and is one of the hardest in the UK, traversing the Pennine Way and crossing Jacob's Ladder, Kinder Scout, Kinder Downfall, many dark and foreboding moors, Malham Cove, Fountains Fell and Pen-Y-Ghent. I have 60 hours to complete the race and I imagine that it might take me every single one of them! thespinerace.com
Challenge 3
....and then, finally, on 15 June 2019, I will be seeing how far I can run in 24 hours when I take on the Mizuno Endure 24, a series of 5 mile trail loops made for quick (?) running! 110 miles, 120 miles, how far can I go?
I appreciate that many of you have sponsored me before so please don’t feel obligated to do so again....but it would be fantastic if I could raise a total of £1,000 for the three events and every pound really will help the charity and keep me from giving up when the going gets tough, as I feel with a very nervous certainty it will!
