Story
Why
I was inspired by my heroic Sister, Alex's mum, who walked the famous Camino Pilgrimage in 2017, so much so I am doing this walk in memory of Alex Bolt. My nephew who was a fun, loving, popular, sport loving, fit 16 year old who died of a High-Grade Glioma in May 2011. As a family, our world fell apart on the diagnosis of a brain tumour on March 23rd 2010. Accident and Emergency queried MS but within a week the diagnosis was even more devastating.
He fought bravely for a year from the original diagnosis, enduring surgery, 6 weeks of radiotherapy and chemotherapy with humour and courage. We intend for the funds raised in Alex's name to be channelled into Brain Tumour Research, a charity which is gratefully supported by St. James's Place Charitable Foundation.
The Walk
This Autumn, I will embark on an 800-mile walk through Italy on the 12th of September, from Barolo to Capri, covering 15 to 20 miles per day and aiming to finish by early November 2019.
'To experience any country properly you must move slowly'
The journey will be broken up by Agriturismos, the Italian B&B, providing authentic accommodation and the chance to experience and taste the real Italy.
I have chosen a number of key waypoints, that I also hope to entice people to join me on my way through Italy:
Barolo Region
Chianti Hills
Brunello
Capri
Any support you can give to help this mammoth trek will be appreciated. On reaching my target of £25,000, St. James's Place Charitable Foundation will match the funds, resulting in £50,000 being raised for an important cause close to my heart.
