We breed and train guide dogs to give blind people freedom and mobility

Story

We have wanted to raise money for Guide Dogs for the Blind so have stupidly decided to run a half marathon.

As many of you may know, our Grandad has been completely blind for 25 years. Going from a hard working farmer who spent majority of his time outside to being blind isn't ideal, especially for someone with a lifestyle so dependent on his sight.

Guide Dogs for the Blind have really helped him and he is now working with his 3rd dog (each dog works for 10 years before they retire). The bond  between dog and man is incredible and they help him so much with daily activities. Even at 83, Grandad goes on daily walks, guided by his new dog Danny. It gives him the chance to be independent and outside every morning. Training dogs to do this great work relies on donations and receives no government funding. We wanted to give something back to this great cause and help others have the benefit which, as we have seen first hand, makes a massive difference.

We thought a good way of doing this was running a half marathon as we are both fairly unfit and very lazy! We're running the Morrisons Birmingham Half Marathon on 18th October.

Any donations, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated and give us a bit extra motivation to get us round!!!

Thank you,

Ben and Becky :)

The ability to get around is vital in order to live a full life yet thousands of people with sight loss never leave home alone. We empower visually impaired people to do that and rely on the support of the public to fund the guide dog service.
