Birmingham Says No · 12 October 2019

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

On the 12th October 2019, we have planned to come together as a community to unite against the continuing seriousness of knife crime and violence mainly, but not exclusively affecting our young people. We believe as a group of bereaved parents, families, teachers, community workers and grassroots organisations that we need to take responsibility for ensuring that the people within our communities are supported and have the tools needed to tackle this serge in violence.

In order to do this we need to engage with the public to inform them of
where to go and what to do if they need help and support and bring back the community spirit. We have such good resources in our communities
who work tirelessly with families and young people to offer support, encourage and change mind sets and much of this is done through individual passion. We want to change the current situation where intervention only happens when things have already gone drastically wrong.

The proposed event we are planning will be held in Victoria Square,
Birmingham City Centre on 12th October 2019 and will start at 2.00pm and run until 6.00pm.

This event is not confined to Birmingham alone, it is a Nationwide event
that is taking place currently at over 40 other towns and cities across the country including, many of the London Boroughs, Liverpool, Manchester, Hull, Norfolk and many more are coming on board by the day.

We are not protesting against any government or public service and are
inviting both the affected and the unaffected in our communities to join us to unite. This includes residents, police, organisations, teachers, NHS Staff and anyone who feels it necessary to unite their community. A minutes silence will be held at 3pm - this will be held simultaneously across the country at the same time.

For the Birmingham event to date we have organised guest speakers, such as one of the UK's most passionate youth violence specialists
Daryl Laycock, high ranking active gang member in Manchester's Moss Side for over 30 years. He has to date worked with over 150000 youngsters and most recently appeared in BAFTA winning Gun No6. In addition one of the most experienced youth workers in the UK, Mac, the founder of Bikestormz will also be speaking to our city. Recently named one of the 50 most influential 'doers' in the UK by Lucozade. We also have support offered on the day from South Birmingham Colleges, Unite and Uplift, Voices Against Crime, Apache Indian and many others. We have a street dance organisation, a youth gospel choir and an array of
positive music artists that are also offering to share their talents on the
day.

We are a charity event and have not received any funding. We are setting up this page as we want to bring an amazing event to the city, an event that will help to change the midset of our young people and bring about change. This event is just the beginning and we will be moving forward across the city after the 12th October to initiate real change for OUR young people and OUR city.

Please support us in trying to support our young people and our city, YOUR home. We look forward to seeing you on the 12th :-)
