Story
We lost our wonderful Dad and Husband to pancreatic cancer 18 months ago. As a fit and healthy 60-year-old who had no previous health issues, Bobby’s earth-shattering diagnosis came out of the blue for all of his friends and family.
Pancreatic cancer has the lowest survival rate of all major cancers. There have been no significant improvements in pancreatic cancer survivor outcomes in the last 40 years. The five-year survival rate is just 8%. When compared to average breast cancer survival rates at 82% and prostate cancer at 91%, the prognosis for pancreatic cancer is extremely bleak.
As Bobby constantly reminded us, "pancreatic cancer is due a breakthrough.” We would like to keep his hope alive by fund-raising for Breakthrough Cancer Research projects relating to pancreatic cancer. Such projects may include electroportation of chemotherapy
drugs and international collaborations such as the on-going immunotherapy trial.
Bobby remained incredibly positive throughout his 15 month battle and never once complained about his illness. His courage, strength and optimism were and continue to be an inspiration to all of his family and friends. To celebrate what should be Bobby’s 63rd birthday we will cycle 63 miles (101 km).
Please feel free to join us by completing your own cycle at your leisure, pictures welcome!
Thank you for your support,
Lucy, Sarah, Georgina and Mary.
