Thanks for visiting our JustGiving Page! One of our volunteers, Michael Doige, has agreed to shave his head in order to raise funds for the running of the annual St John Bosco Children’s Camp which is affiliated to the St Vincent De Paul Society (SVP).  

About the challenge

Michael Doige has had long hair since he was 14 years old. Over 15 years later, and to raise money for this brilliant cause, he has agreed to shave his head. We need to raise £2000 for this to happen, so please give as generously as you can. We will be live-streaming the main event for your viewing pleasure once we hit our target!

N.B. If we reach £500 he will cut off his ponytail. But we're going for the full shave!

About the camp

The St John Bosco Children’s Camp has now been running for over 65 years. The camp is inspired by the life and work of St John Bosco and St Vincent de Paul. 

John Bosco believed that there was no such thing as a bad child, only bad circumstances, and he worked hard to give children a place to play, and to learn to trust again.

The Bosco Children’s Camp has now been running for over 65 years and runs for three weeks each summer, two weeks for boys and one week for girls. It has been on its current site of Fordham in Essex for 30 years. Each week we aim to give 130 children a fantastic holiday, with the help of up to 70 volunteers, many of who were once children at the camp themselves.

Children come to the camp from a variety of backgrounds which can include one parent families, overcrowding at home, alcohol and drug abuse within the family, recent bereavements, or perhaps they may be in care.  We aim to give these children a holiday to remember in a caring environment, which they may not be used to.

In order for this camp to run each year, a large amount of fund-raising needs to take place, to cover the deficit between income and expenditure.  Additionally, we are always looking to improve the quality of the holidays we provide, and are continually looking to raise funds for special projects.
