The RoadPeace Challenge: a collaboration between RoadPeace, the national charity for crash victims, police forces & emergency services with the aim to reduce road danger, save lives & raise £1,000 000 to fund vital support services for crash victims

Story

All forces have been invited to take part in this fund raising this year, on the back of an extremely successful challenge last year (details below). Now Andy Cox has committed to doing 30 miles on foot every day for 7 days, and whilst I do a bit of running this is beyond my abilities!

What I have committed to doing though is at least 100km by bicycle every day for 7 days. I'm quite a keen cyclist as some around the force may know and have previously done Lands End to John O'Groats in 7 days where we raised money for Weston Park Cancer Charity. But; I'm older, I'm heavier, I really don't like hills and I have four 12 hour shifts to do in the same week!!

I will record the rides I do on Strava and I'll post the links to the rides into here so you can amuse yourself with my suffering; and this alone must be worth a couple of quid of anyone's money! I can assure you setting off from home for a 12 hour day shift at 0430hrs on a bicycle is not much fun! I might even finish the week off with a 100 miler depending on how the posterior feels!

Besides the amusement you'll have the cause is a great one, and given what I now do in Roads Policing it seems pertinent that we lead the way. You can find out more about the charity on the following link.

The Andy Cox Challenge 2022: How far will you go to save lives on our roads?Building in the foundations of a hugely successful challenge in 2021, raising over £50k for RoadPeace, the largest amount raised for the charity by an individual fundraiser, Detective Chief Superintendent Andy Cox is taking his challenge for 2022 to the next level.Planning to complete 7 Marathons in 7 days, across England between 16th - 22nd May 2022, with the aim of raising a staggering £500,000 for RoadPeace, Andy will be encouraging police forces, victims of road crashes, vulnerable road users and the public to get involved in amplifying his voice; raising awareness of needless deaths and injury on our roads.
