Bruce's SDW100 2012, from Sat 30 June

South Downs Way 100 2012 · 6 June 2012
The South Downs Way National Trail boasts 100 miles of stunning rolling hills, ancient forts, picturesque villages and expansive views across southern England, the south coast and the channel, from Winchester, the ancient capital of Saxon England, to Eastbourne.
This is the Olympic year, so what better than an ‘Olympic-sized’ challenge and apparently there is no better way to see it all, in one go, in one day (hopefully), none stop, then to run it in a 100 mile foot race: so there you have it: “The South Down Way 100" ultra-marathon . After all, an ultra-marathon is just an eating and drinking competition with some exercise thrown in and with moving scenery.
The 'race' starts at 6am on Saturday 30 June in Winchester and I hope to finish (a) the 100 mile route (b) at Eastbourne, and (c) in under 24 hours. I can take longer, but I certainly dont want to run any further or arrive anywhere else but Eastbourne, so I'll keep to the trail and carry a map (and head torch for during the night). I've trained well (I hope), signed-up a support crew (wife and daughter), and booked a bed at the finish.
So to raise a generously large amount of money for a worthy cause I asked my 96 year old grandma who recommended The Institute of Cancer Research, whose mission is to make the discoveries that defeat cancer! What better recommendation could I get... and what a clearly crucial mission.
I will be very grateful if you will sponsor me to do this event and raise money for this exceedingly good cause.
Thanks, Bruce
