Story

This year the Crouch End Chavurah has chosen to focus our giving even more locally than ever by supporting the Hornsey Food Bank.

The Hornsey Food Bank is based in the Methodist Church on Lightfoot Road.

Hornsey Food bank was set up at the start of the pandemic, when community leaders in Haringey met to discuss what was most needed to support families and people living alone in the area  - the simple answer was food
Most of us know that food poverty  has been a worsening issue in society over the last few years. The pandemic exacerbated this and locally in Haringey this there has been a huge increase in the number of  people struggling to put food on the table
Unlike other food banks,  Hornsey Food Bank does not set any criteria of who can come - it is open to all, no registrations and no questions. As well as food, people also donate personal hygiene products, sanitary towels and things like drawing materials for kids.

In addition to donations, you can also contact Hornsey Food Bank if you would like to help out in other ways by giving our time as a volunteer.

About the charity

Hornsey Parochial Charities was set up in 1620 for “the maintenance of eight poor men of the Parish of Hornsey” Today, we continue to assist anyone with need who resides within the old parish boundary of Hornsey to alleviate the effects of poverty and promote educational and economic achievement. We do this through the provision of grants in 3 areas: 1) Personal grants To residents in need to help with essential items such as clothing, bedding for the cost of heating and lighting. 2) Educational grants To young people under the age of 25 years to assist with education expenses or to prepare for a career, profession or further education. 3) Local organisation grants To charitable organisations who provide homes or services for the elderly, infirm, homeless or other organisations providing services to the local community, including the provision of grants to schools, community and youth organisations.
