Dementia is a term used to describe the symptoms that occur when the brain is affected by specific diseases and conditions. These include Alzheimer's disease and are sometimes the result of a stroke (Vascular Dementia). Dementia is progressive and how fast the dementia progresses will depend on the individual. Symptoms include loss of memory, mood changes and communication problems. In the latter stages of dementia the person affected will have problems carrying out everyday tasks and They will become increasingly dependent on the person caring for them.
