Our son Sam was born with a rare genetic condition in 2018 called Cri Du Chat. When he was diagnosed we left the hospital with two sheets of a4 paper on his condition, we were unsure what future he would have. Since then we have watched him become the most loving, resilient and happy little boy. We have had a lot of support as a family and a main focus of this has been reaching out to families who are going through the same thing. The Cri Du Chat Support Group is an incredibly important charity that helps families who need each other, learn how best to support their beautiful children. 

We count ourselves lucky to have an amazing support network of friends and family and from the outset of Sam’s diagnosis we have wanted to do something that raises money for the wonderful charity that has helped us. 

Ric and his friends, Gaz, Dan, Craig, El, Neil and Bobby decided one hazy afternoon over a few beers that they needed to do something to support Sam. It needed to be something that put them out their comfort zone. It had to be a challenge and couldn’t be easy. They settled on a cycle from the east coast to the west coast. Not many of them were very good at cycling and it’s fair to say not many of them actually owned a bike. What united them was the idea that they wanted to do something for Sam and the charity that meant so much to Ric and Rach’s hearts. 

We set out on the 29th May for three days of cycling that promise to be long, tough and hard but ultimately the goal is to come together as a group of best mates and raise money for a cause that is exceptionally close to all of our hearts.
