Story

Our beautiful daughter Carina Grace Marcangelo was born on the 13th February 2012. She was taken to the Royal Brompton Hospital in Chelsea shortly after she was born  for the first two weeks of her life when we first encountered the kindness and support of the Brompton Fountain.

Little did we know that we would return to the hospital 8 months later - this time not for two weeks, but for 6 months. Carina had a very complex heart condition that baffled the doctors at times but after various open-heart surgeries, a heart transplant was her only option. The amazing medical team at the Royal Brompton managed to keep Carina alive whilst we waited for a heart to become available, and there were various times when we nearly lost her. The Brompton Fountain gave us love, support, a place to stay very close to Carina's bed in intensive care and helped us through some of the most difficult times of our lives.

Carina was given the greatest gift imaginable on the 7th April 2013 and received her heart transplant at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Her Donor family gave her a much needed second chance in life, something which we will always be eternally grateful for. Carina was finally allowed home at the end of May last year and spend the whole summer at home with her family - getting to spend quality time with her big sister, Emily. Sadly Carina passed away on the 27th August 2013 and has left a huge hole in our lives, however, her legacy lives on - and always will do.

The Brompton Fountain continue to support all of our family even now Carina is no longer with us. For this, the Brompton will always have a special lace in our hearts.

Raising money for the Brompton Fountain will ensure other families that are faced with the unthinkable are given the help and support needed at such a difficult time. Please give generously if you can afford it, for such a worthwhile and wonderful charity.
