Story
I'm doing it! In October 2016, I'll be joining like-minded fund raisers and spending a week trekking a section of the Great Wall of China. It's going to be a huge challenge but there's nothing I love more than an adventure so BRING IT ON! Not only will I be living out one of my dream treks but I'll also be raising £££ for a very special charity and one that's very close to my heart.... As I was once a carer for my Mam, I understand the day-to-day challenges that face the Hospice carers every day.
The hospice provide specialist palliative care to adults, children and young people from the North East of England with life limiting conditions. I'm doing this trek for the residents and families.
We'll be trekking a remote section of the wall from Gubeikou to Simatai. The scenery is vast and diverse and we'll trek through wild landscapes with distant green river valleys and mountain peaks... with one of the great wonders of the world as the backdrop. We'll be camping (yey!) throughout the trek (and doing our business in a hole in the ground). We'll get a real understanding of the 'real China' as we learn more about the way of life and the local people.... and taste some incredible local dishes.
This challenge is perfect for me as I love hiking, looking at beautiful things, making friends and raising money for St Oswald's Hospice!!! And i'll probably be taking a few photos too :) :)
Between now and the trek, I intend on visiting lots of lovely places to hike and get myself trek-fit. The Lakes, Hadrian's Wall, The North Pennines - I'll be there - along with locations further afield. I may organise a few walks and invite you to join me (for a donation of course) as it's so much more fun walking with friends :) x
I know funds are tight, and you're all constantly bombarded with requests for donations so - Thank you very much for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Please donate what you can and please SPREAD THE WORD - I need to raise £3'000.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
I'll post updates as things progress.
Many thanks and lots of love to you all, Cat xxxxxx
