Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My husband, Jim, passed away on Sunday 8th July 2012, having battled cancer for six months.  His loss is hard to bear.

During Jim's illness he was cared for by the wonderful staff at Woking and Sam Beare Hospices, who did their best to make Jim comfortable and manage his pain at the end.  Everyone at both hospices were wonderful to Jim and the family at what was a heartbreaking time.  They were angels to my Jim.

It costs £5.4m per year to run both hospices, which are registered charities - they don't charge for patient care but rely entirely on donations and fund raising activities to fund their work.

It has been estimated that 1 in 3 people will develop cancer at some point in their life time.  I cannot begin to explain the difference the hospices made to Jim's quality of life and the incredible support they were to the whole family.  I hope that we continue to have these two wonderful hospices within our community because the service they provide is beyond measure.

In Jim's memory and the memory of his Mum, Ann, and to support the hospices I will be trekking Kilimanjaro on 16-25 August 2013.  Kilimanjaro is the highest free standing mountain in the world at 5,896m.  This is a challenging trek at altitude and will be an extreme challenge for me.  I will also be trekking Snowdon in May as part of my training.  Please support the hospices by sponsoring me.  I have paid the costs involved in participating in the trek myself, so 100% of your sponsorship will go to the hospices.
