Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In September 2017, Hurricane Maria devastated the island of Dominica, home to my family/friends and a place where I grew up and went to school as a child. I also lost my beloved aunt tragically in this hurricane and many others also lost their lives and others lost their homes.
The island's entire infrastructure and agriculture has been destroyed and families have had to relocate to neighbouring islands so their children can go to school and continue their education. The remaining people on the island are fighting to rebuild the island's roads, farmlands, houses, hospitals, supermarkets, the things we here in the UK take for granted.
Although no longer reported in the mainstream media, there are many homeless and vulnerable people in Dominica.
I would like to support the Jermain Defoe foundation as the Defoe family are also from Dominica and Jermain is doing great work in trying to help rebuild the lives of children in Dominica. It is important that Dominica is rebuilt to how it used to be, as the island needs its young people to remain on the island, rebuild its economy and to support the communities who still remain on the island.
