On New Years Eve 2009 my wife and I suffered the loss of our baby daughter, Elspeth.  I made a commitment at that time to raise money for an organisation (Sands) which strives to support and provide care for families going through such a traumatic experience and raise awareness of this all too common and yet still taboo subject.

When my colleague Alan announced his intention to embark on an expedition to Africas highest peak in celebration of his 50th, it seemed like an ideal opportunity to fulfil that commitment.
