Story
I’m running my first marathon on the 22nd December and thought it would be a great opportunity to raise some funds for the Guernsey Cheshire Home.
The Home provides warm, friendly and professional care/support, opportunities, independence, activities and of course a home (on a residential or respite basis) for people with physical disabilities. It costs £1,100,000 per year to run and receives no direct funding from the States of Guernsey or the Leonard Cheshire Disability Global Alliance.
The residents contribute through their disability benefits. As the Home does not receive any direct funding from the States it has to rely on fundraising, donations, legacies and sponsorship to make up the shortfall between what long-term care payments the Home receives from the residents, and the actual cost of running the Home. That shortfall is approximately £600,000 per annum.
My training is going well, and I will have experienced running up to about 3/4 of the full distance in one go prior to the big day, but will never have run the full marathon distance before. Please consider donating to this very special cause to spur me on past what I’ve experienced in training and all the way to the finish line on the 22nd!
