Thanks for visiting our page, as we try to raise money for Meniere's Society!
After some thought, we both decided to run our first marathon this year, knowing we'd both have to have a friend to train with for moral support! Neither of us have run a marathon before, and since November we have been training hard (Chip more successfully than me) to finish and get a good time going around. We've both run half marathons before (again, Chip more successfully than me) but we wanted the challenge of completing a full one and felt this is a good cause to run for, to motivate us to go out and train when it's cold, wet, dark and miserable outside.
We've picked Meniere's as the charity to support because my Dad was affected by this disease when he was younger. Its symptoms include violent dizzy spells, tinnitus and loss of hearing, the last two symptoms of which stay with you for life. The dizzy attacks 'burn' themselves out over a period of time, but loud noises and any extreme motion (such as going on a roller coaster, as an example) affect you even when the disease is dormant.
There's very little Government research being conducted into finding a cure for this, and as such every penny raised makes a real difference into what this charity can help to provide. Currently they provide support for those who suffer from it, with a small amount of research into new treatments. I've raised money for them before and they've always appreciated the publicity to raise awareness (we'll be running in their t-shirts) and any donations, no matter how small.
Thanks again for reading, and any donation, big or small, will make a huge difference. Thank you!
