We are walking as a family to help raise funds for JDRF.

JDRF is the type 1 diabetes charity, improving lives until they find the cure. They are totally focused on type 1 diabetes, and are run by people with type 1, for people with type 1

Type 1 Diabetes is different to type two Diabetes, Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune condition. For reasons we don’t yet fully understand, your immune system, which is meant to protect you from foreign bodies, such as viruses and bacteria, mistakenly attacks and destroys the beta cells in your pancreas that produce insulin.

You cannot prevent it by adopting a healthy diet, exercising regularly, or living a healthy lifestyle. There is currently no known cure. 

Chloe was diagnosed with type one diabetes when she was three years old. Initially we relied on regular injections of two different types of insulin to manage the condition. Its not easy and she is very brave, every meal or snack must be calculated and excersise, growing, tiredness, illness all effect the management of the condition every day/all day.

Thanks to research and advancements in technology she now has an insulin pump which is attached using a renewable canula and can administer the insulin without the need for multiple injections each mealtime. The pump makes things easier for her to manage and she is able to live a more active normal life with this. 

Like everything, it comes down to money! more money for JDRF = more research into a cure for type one. We donate every month to this charity and hope that by doing things like this walk you will too!
