Story
Enham is an extraordinary place with a rich and inspiring history. Every since Enham village first welcomed injured ex-servicemen returning from the Great War in 1919, Enham Trust has been delivering care in a multitude of ways, enabled by an initial £100,000 donation from King George V, and over 100 years Enham Trust has supported more than 250,000 disabled people to live the lives they choose, as independently as possible.
In the 100th Anniversary year of the first residents arriving in Enham village, we would like to raise £100,000 for 'Choices', that's £1,000 for every year Enham has been delivering care.
Every day in the media there is a greater awareness of the importance of the mental health and wellbeing of us all, and the emphasis on preventative services to halt the decline of many of the mental health issues we all too frequently hear so much about.
It is vital that people living with disabilities have a purpose to their day. For an able bodied person, simply walking a dog, cooking a meal, having a long bath without help or catching a bus alone to go to the cinema are all choices one takes without relying on others, and all activities which give pleasure and stimulation . For someone with a profound disability, these tasks are totally reliant on others; disabled people need activities tailored for themselves they can access to provide stimulation and therapy for their overall health and wellbeing.
Choices is an activities service which runs 7 days a week on the site of the Care Homes at Enham Alamein. With a different activity each day ranging from drama and arts and crafts to boccia and archery, and a wonderful 'E Major' Choir, Choices caters for all tastes and abilities but desperately needs financial help to keep the activities running, buy equipment and to broaden the range of what is offered.
The Choices team of Mary, Sarah, Jolanta, and Chris R are brimming with energy and enthusiasm and supported by fabulous volunteers, but your help would enable them to do so much more. These activities are vital for the overall mental and physical health and wellbeing of Enham's residents, without which people can become lonely, isolated and suffer from a lack of confidence and low self-esteem.
The Enham Trust has a wonderful history, but history alone does not help people who are severely disabled, many who are unable to occupy themselves and rely on others for stimulation and support.
Please help us to help Enham and support Choices which makes such a difference to so many people's lives.
Any donation, however small, would be much appreciated and very gratefully received and would mean the world to so many disabled residents.
Thank you in anticipation from us all.
