In May 2018 my wife Carly made the comment as I got home that our 18 month old daughter Alexa (Dolling) was not responding to her name as usual and she wasn't showing signs of noticing when the vacuum was turned on. This was an observation that lead to visiting the doctor and within weeks we had seen audiologists and specialists and received the diagnosis that Lexie was profoundly deaf. The Audiology team at St Michael's hospital were fantastic in their support and guidance and suggested that the level of Lexie's hearing loss could qualify her for Cochlear Implants. Carly looked on hopefully as I looked this up on google!

My ignorance on this type of hearing implant coupled with the fact that it can only be offered for a certain level of hearing loss has made us all the more grateful for its potential ability to give Lexie full hearing!

After many further tests Lexie was formally offered the Cochlear Implants in November 2018 and is awaiting the operation. This month we also found out the cause of her hearing loss was a completely undetectable virus.

I decided then that it was important for me, on behalf of my family to raise money for a fantastic cause close to us and that I needed to do  something out of my comfort zone. Therefore, having never run a half marathon or a full one! I am going to run the London Marathon on behalf of the National Deaf children's Society (NDCS).
