I visited Rwanda in 2012 and found an amazing country with amazing people but the aftermath of the 1994 genocide and the socio-economic status of most families still leads most children to live with extreme disadvantage. Rwanda remains 1 of the 25 poorest countries in the world and over a quarter of a million people are living with HIV/Aids. 

The Rwanda Government believe that a closer relationship with their East African neighbours like Kenya and Uganda, where English is widely spoken, will improve their economy and consequently the prosperity of their population. They also believe that sport, and in particular cricket, can help strengthen that.

Therefore, along with several friends and colleagues, I will visit Rwanda again in October 2015 in order to work with schools in the Rusizi district of the country.

As well as working in these rural and basic schools and supporting young people directly, we will make donations to local schools for equipment etc, whilst also supporting our fellow chairites Cricket Without Boundaries (which educates on HIV/Aids awareness through cricket) and the Rwanda Cricket Stadium Foundation (building Rwanda's first cricket stadium).

In the lead up to this trip, I will also be undertaking a number of other fundraising activities including 5 X 10K runs.
