Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit this JustGiving page in memory of Steve Lyons.

His sudden passing was a shock not only to me (his wife), his mum and sister, but to his many friends and work colleagues.  He will be greatly missed by all of us.

From the many emails, cards and texts, in response to his passing,  the common theme seems to have been that Steve was a well liked and respected man.

No matter under what circumstances you met Steve, his wonderful smile, words of wisdom, sense of humour and generosity to listen and help others, always made a lasting impression and resulted in some great friendships.

Some people described him as the kindest, funniest and sincerest person that they had the pleasure to know. Others said he was like a big brother they never had, loyal, protective and fun. Someone they could confide in.

His life changed quite dramatically in 2003 through illness, and he spent several months in 2004 at St Marks Hospital. There he made friends with fellow patients and staff and made the best of quite difficult circumstances. Since then he was treated, supported and assisted by St Marks over the next 14 years to lead a life of independence with Short Bowl Syndrome.

The one thing that many of the people who knew what he had to deal with, admired, was the way he always dealt with his illness without complaint and just got on with life.

No matter how you knew Steve, he never let his illness get the better of him or define him.

Steve would have liked the idea of something good coming from his death, and since St Marks Hospital helped Steve so much - to be independent and to improve his quality of life - as well as saving it - it seems an appropriate choice to help them continue their great work.

Anything you can donate in Steve’s memory will be greatly appreciated.

I will always remember Steve as a wonderful, caring and generous man with a great sense of humour. He was definitely my better half!

Rest in Peace Steve.

His loving wife.

Christine Lyons
