Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.  I am a Trustee of an amazing charity called First Step. I thought I would give you a bit of background about First Step and the outstanding work that the charity does.  Any amount you can spare will be much appreciated, (and also will any tips for a half marathon). 

First Step's History

First Step began in October 1988 in response to a plea from parents of young children with special needs and/or disabilities. They felt they, and others in similar situations, could benefit from a group where they would be able to talk, share experiences, and provide support for each other in a non-judgmental environment.

Since that time, the charity has evolved to provide a range of sessions
and services. First Step currently works with over 100 pre-school children, and their families, offering education services, support, information and encouragement.

First Step's Mission Today

First Step aims to provide babies and pre-school children with special needs and/or disabilities, residing in the London Borough of Havering, an opportunity for educational development in a caring environment through a wide range of play activities and experiences. To offer families of such children support, information and advice, in a friendly atmosphere of trust and confidentiality.

The Future of First Step

Since First Step’s funding was withdrawn by Havering Council in 2017, the charity has been able to continue delivering its services by drawing on the finite source of its reserves.

First Step is launching a social enterprise appeal following an announcement that the charity has reached a critical stage in its fundraising efforts.
