Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have chosen to raise funds for the Nicholls Spinal Injury Foundation, a charity established to support financially the work of Professor Geoffrey Raisman who is based at the University College London. After many years of research, Professor Raisman now believes that he is in the final stages of providing a cure for spinal injury. He is confident that he will rewrite the futures of the thousands of people who are currently suffering from spinal injury.
My inspiration for running the marathon and supporting this particular charity is to help Steven, a young local man. Previously a healthy and active teenager, Steven was paralysed overnight by a virus four and a half years ago, aged 15 years. After a year's intensive rehabilitation, Steven was told he would never walk again and would be confined to a wheelchair for life. He did not accept this and was determined to improve his situation. Through a gruelling physiotherapy regime he is now able to walk with walking sticks! However, Steven continues to work hard daily, and has never lost sight of his ultimate goal to walk again independently and believes that the work of Professor Raisman will help him to achieve this.
I hope you too will be inspired by Steven and willing to donate to this charity.
