Story
The International Citizen Service, working in conjunction with Raleigh International, is an incredible opportunity for young people with an interest in international development to make a difference. It enables young people to spend three months overseas working in impoverished communities to empower the local community to improve their living conditions, through the improvement of sanitation units, extending gravity water feed systems and spreading health awareness, among other things.
I am so grateful for the opportunity I have been given to live and work in rural India. I have been given the chance of a lifetime to truly experience what life is like for so many impoverished people in India, as well as the opportunity to make a difference. It will be a difficult couple of months, working for exhausting hours in the scorching Indian heat, whilst living in the most basic of conditions, but the experience will be truly invaluable. I know that I won't be able to save the world in three months, but I know that making a small difference in a local community is just as important.
