Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

So at Christmas I was thinking about challenges for the year ahead and agonising over what to do and i came up with a solution...“the year of awesomeness 🙌”

This is essentially means I’m going to do loads of random stuff in order to push my boundaries and challenge myself. Some of it will be big (such as the Great North Run) and some of it will be small (such as wearing a skirt to the gym for a month 🙈) but I figured that during this journey it would be fab to raise funds for a local charity that I’m really passionate about.

Safety Net (UK)  is a charity that up until recently I wasn’t aware of. With compassion and commitment this group supports survivors of domestic violence, rape and sexual abuse, literally helping to transform lives along the way. They work with all genders and all age groups supporting in a variety of ways ranging  from practical support around the police and court systems through to therapy to support wellbeing and emotional resilience. All in all they’re an absolutely amazing group and I’m very proud to support them.

In 2017-2018 the charity supported 285 people from West Cumbria,  174 of these were children under the age of 18... In 2019-2020 this is expected to increase by 25%...the charity don’t currently have a dedicated support worker in the north west and it would be awesome to help provide them with the funds to change that :-)

Any amount you could contribute would be gratefully appreciated.

Current challenges for the year

1) The ‘ultimate Scottish’ - i will walk 500 miles (and if by July I’m almost there then I will walk 500 more) ✅ target completely smashed! I’d walked 500 miles by March and whilst I haven’t added up the current total I think I’m closer to 2000 than 1000!

2) The ‘Coledale 10 peaks’ - 10 Cumbrian peaks in a day (1st June) ✅ - tough but rewarding!;

3) The ‘Donald Where’s Your Trooosers’ - basically I won’t wear trousers for a month... but fear not, I’ll be wearing skirts.... all month... even at the gym and on my walks (could prove an interesting one! 😳🙈 - currently researching ‘skorts’!); UPDATE now changed to dressing all Scottish and wearing skirts at the gym, currently ongoing and hugely embarrassing 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🙈

4) The ‘loch Lomond’ - I will complete a virtual row of Loch Lomond within 1 month.... I’d started this in March but had to postpone thanks to a back injury, be giving it a go again later in the year 😬; -NOTE  now changed to the Santa Dash in Carlisle thanks to a torn rotator cuff (thanks Born Survivor! 🤦🏻‍♀️) where I’ll be running 5k dressed as Mrs Claus 🤶🙈

5) The ‘Hinch’ - I will clean my car (inside and out!) once a month for the year - it doesn’t sound a lot but it will cause me physical and mental pain.... however those forced to get lifts in my car will appreciate it! (normally people are seen cleaning themselves when they exit the vehicle...) ✅ (ish!! - halfway there and hating every minute of it!!);

6) The ‘Help me!!! 😩’ - no chocolate, sweets, fizzy drinks, white bread, cakes, biscuits, takeaways, burgers or chips for 30 days.... ✅ (god I craved biscuits!!) NOTE now being repeated in the Christmas build up ending on 24th December 🙈😱🙈

7) The Great North Run (8th Sept) ✅ (smashed it! 2hrs 46mins, not bad for someone that only started running in about March!);

8) The Yorkshire 3 Peaks (28th September) ✅ smashed it!! 3 peaks, 21miles, 11hours 3minutes! (still annoyed about the 3 minutes 😂). Absolutely loved it - despite the torrential rain and resulting trench foot 🥴

9) Lose my karaoke virginity! 🙈✅ (and yes, it was 500miles baby!!🙌😂);

10) Carlisle 10k run (14th July) ✅ smashed it!! ;
