Story

Man vs Lakes is the second of 3 Rat Races I’m aiming to complete this year.  It will take me 25 miles initially 6Km over Morecambe Bay Sands, then up and over the fells.

The Mountain Rescue dogs and handlers will go out in just about any weather, and not always on to Mountains.  If a vulnerable person has gone missing from their home, they can be called to search towns too.

I volunteer as ‘a body’ for The Lake District Search & Rescue Dogs training.  I can’t even begin to tell you how dedicated the handlers are - they volunteer all their time, and that includes being an existing, active member of a Mountain Rescue Team before they even begin the long, time-consuming task of training with their own dogs.  The dogs are just as incredible too!

Any amount you can donate will make an impact to a volunteer service that will be under significant demand as many more people hit the Lake District Fells due to taking holidays in The UK rather than abroad this year.

Thank you 😊

About the charity

We train and use mountain rescue search dogs to search for and rescue missing persons, predominantly in a mountainous environment, but also in other areas where our skills may be of benefit. All Lake District mountain rescue search dog handlers are also members of a mountain rescue team.
