Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit Craven Energy Triathlon Club's JustGiving page for this winter's Spine race.

We will be there for every single competitor in Challenger, MRT and full Spine Race at Lothersdale. We will guarantee you somewhere warm to have a rest whilst having hot drinks, soup and some food. We will also provide water refills and boiling water to make up your freeze dried meals if you prefer.

Our club loves the Spine Race and we have 5 people entered in this year's race as well as having 10 out of 10 successful finishes in recent years. We look forward to meeting all the competitors. We don't expect anything in return for our club but we do think that both Spine competitors and all of us have potentially a mutual interest in this wonderful charity. Our food/drinks are free to everybody but in the past people have asked if they could donate 'online' hence why we have this set up in case you wish to donate.

Cave Rescue Organisation are the Mountain Rescue team covering the race route from Malham to Hawes. We all go 'playing' in the hills knowing these wonderful people give up their time should incidents happen (not that we have ever called them out yet). Also, Spine racers go through likes of Malham Cove, Fountains Fell, Pen-Y-Ghent and Cam High Road which is on their patch. This place in winter is a potentially dangerous environment and whilst we hope no incidents will ever happen to Spine Racers, it is these people who could potentially be at forefront of managing an incident if the Spine safety team call them in.

One final thing..........this article is about one of our fellow Spine Racers and an ultimately unsuccessful rescue that they attempted to carry out in June 2019. It encapsulates what these people do and the sacrifices they make. They lost a lot of equipment in the rescue as well. It really is worth a read.
