Story

A group of Bradford Institute for Health Research cyclists are excited to announce they are raising funds by cycling 130 miles around the Yorkshire Dales Cycleway, a gruelling 2 day ride up hill and down dale. For more details of the route, paste the following URL into your browser:

We are supporting a local event for Bradford's 'SHINE' schools in conjunction with the Bradford Bikery. The Bradford Bikery is a community bike project that among other things recycle unloved bikes and distribute these. We hope to raise enough funds to support an event for local school children where the Bradford Bikery can distribute bikes to children who don't have one. This event will also involve bike maintenance skills workshop. Kids will be able to get their bikes fixed and learn so basic bike maintenance.

Zoe Mawson, Headteacher said "The SHINE schools are a group of 10 local primaries covering Manningham, Heaton and Frizinghall serving approximately 4000 children.  We work together so that all children in our schools can "shine".  Having developed a close partnership with the Born in Bradford Research project over the last few years, we know the  importance of joint working between health and education and so we take any opportunity to develop healthy lifestyles. Sponsorship of this activity will enable SHINE schools to work with Bradford Bikery to run cycling events and make sure that children's bikes are fit to be used!  Health and Safety in action!”

Anthony at the Bradford Bikery said "I really liked the 'Fix and Share' pop-up workshop community bike recycling which was part skillshare, part social event, [we] distributed 27 bikes to children via parents & guardians. I think it's the best [event] we've done - it had very practical outcomes and was efficient, combining learning and lots of hands on helping recycle bikes where they were needed. We'd love to do more of this. Qualified mechanics were on hand to check all bikes passed their M check and were roadworthy"

Please help us by giving generously so we can support more of these events. All funds raised will go to the Bradford Bikery project. Don't forget to include gift aid, which increases all donations by a further 25%.
