Story
A huge 7.8 magnitude earthquake has hit Nepal, toppling buildings and destroying roads and infrastructure. Already, more than 5,000 people are reported to have died and 50,000 injured. These figures are likely to increase significantly. Millions of children are in danger.
Unicef is on the ground right now, coordinating efforts with the Government of Nepal and other partners to provide safe water and sanitation, child health and nutrition, as well as protection for vulnerable children.
Unicef is urgently requesting funds for essential supplies to keep more children and families safe in the coming hours, days and weeks. Unicef is providing clean water, oral rehydration salts and zinc supplements for children and families, as well as providing tents for medical facilities. We will be supplying emergency health kits, with each kit serving 10,000 people for three months.
