Story

THE CED SHARPLEY FUND

Raising money for The Intensive Therapy Unit (ITU) at Stoke Mandeville Hospital

PLEASE MENTION: 'ITU, Stoke Mandeville Hospital' in your donation message

Drummer extraordinaire, loveable eccentric, dear friend and buddie Ced Sharpley wasn't just a diamond on the local music scene in and around Hertfordshire, but also gained celeb status with bands such as Druid and was the engine room behind Gary Numan in the glory days.

Following a heart attack in 2012, Ced spent several weeks in the Intensive Therapy Unit at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, receiving truly remarkable and dedicated one-to-one care from a team of extraordinarily devoted and sympathetic nurses and doctors.

Sadly, he didn't make it, but his partner Gill Mabey wanted to create something on his behalf. So we set up DRUMBEATS to continue Ced's musical legacy and help to improve facilities for other patients who find themselves in ITU.

We've received great support from the Oddfellows Arms in Apsley (especially through their ODDSTOCK music fest), and our fund-raising dinner at the Artichoke restaurant in Amersham (with celeb guest chef Jason Atherton) was a huge success - however we're always looking for new ways of raising extra money.

ITU still needs more medical equipment, tools and creature comforts for the patients themselves, so please give what you can. It really does make a difference!

About the charity

Staying in hospital can be a difficult time for patients and their families. We improve our patients’ care through extra funding for equipment, research, staff and patient welfare. Be it a neuro-rehabilitation machine, or specialist cancer training, your support helps us to continue our work.
