Story

Our event is called “Live at Proud Cabaret Embankment” A night of West End Stars and is on Sunday 20th October at Proud Cabaret, Embankment. The Cabaret is in memory of my wonderful Grandma, Audrey Jones, who sadly passed away two weeks ago after suffering for 8 years with Parkinson’s Disease. It took away her independence and i’m determined to raise as much money as we can her memory! All proceeds from the evening go towards “Parkinson’s UK”.
For those of you who don’t know Grandma’s story...Audrey trained at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama as a pianist in 1948 and then went on to become the official accompanist for many music festivals around the country. She went to to The Guildhall on a financial grant sponsored by Warwickshire County Council. Grandma came from Rugby where her Mother Elsie and Father George sent her to a blind teacher to learn the piano. She had one special gift- not only was she a fine pianist, she was a superb accompanist accompanying many choirs including the London Welsh Male Voice Choir. She played at the Wigmore Hall and St Martins in the Fields and then became Head of Music at Woodmansterne Primary School in South London. The school choir was chosen (due to Grandma’s training) to support Barry Manilow in concert and on record. She had the ability to make anyone who sang for her enjoy what they were doing and her passion and enthusiasm for music was infectious. She dedicated her life to music and she really was the most glamorous, independent, sassy, supportive, selfless, talented and brave lady I’ve known. She is so loved by us all and her florentines really were out of this world!

So far our line up for our cabaret consists of the brightest West End Stars and there’s no doubt it will be an unforgettable evening!

If you are unable to make our event but would still like to contribute to helping people with Parkinson’s disease it really would mean the world. If you do fancy coming along please put on your glad-rags and I can’t wait to raise a glass to Grandma’s amazing life with with you all and raise a bloody fortune in her memory!
