Story

I was on holiday walking with my family on Tywyn beach when I had a life changing incident. I was unaware but I was about to have multiple brain haemorrhages which left me fighting for my life. I was rushed to Aberystwyth ICU where I was placed in an induced coma and intubated on Life Support. CT scans revealed 3 brain haemorrhages with a very worrying prognosis for my family to take in so far from home in Wolverhampton.

I spent the next 4 days in ICU at Aberystwyth until I started to have kidney failure, the medical teams explained to my family that I would have to be air lifted to Carmarthen Hospital where they had the specialist kidney machine which was my only chance of getting through the next few days. I spent the next 6 weeks in a coma fighting for my life with multiple organ failure and sepsis.

Somehow the medical team managed to keep me alive and eventually I was stable enough to move a little closer to home at the Royal Stoke Hospital where there is a specialist neurological team. This involved another Air Ambulance with some of the medical team from Carmarthen. After eleven months of medical care at the Royal Stoke, Haywood Hospital and now Hunters Moor, I’m finally starting to learn how to communicate and get movement back into my arms and legs. This is a very long and slow process so I need a target to help me achieve my ‘Road to Recovery’.

Over an 8 week period I hope to pedal on my exercise bike from Lands End to John O’Groats (with a little help from Laura and James too). This will help me gain mobility and strength in my legs and hopefully give a little back to the Air Ambulance who undoubtably helped save my life.

Wish me luck!

This is my proposed road to recovery, stopping at a few memorable places which have helped saved my life along the way.
