About us
We’re Dan and Kirsty. We both turn 30 at the end of February and plan to do something positive for our birthdays by raising money for charity
The challenge
We plan to climb the highest mountain in Wales on the 26th February. We’re both keen hikers and have had Snowdon on our to do list for some time. Tackling this can be difficult in the winter, but we’re up to the challenge.
The charity
We chose to raise funds for Genetic Alliance UK - Rare Disease UK. The reason we chose this charity is we recently discovered Kirsty had an undiagnosed rare genetic heart condition called Heart-Hand syndrome (Slovenian type), and more recently our youngest son Bam who is five got diagnosed with the same condition.
1 in 17 people will be affected by a rare disease at some point in their lives. The average patient receives three misdiagnosis, consults with five doctors and waits four years before receiving a diagnosis. Some people have to wait over 20 years to receive a final, correct diagnosis.
Money raised for Rare Disease UK will be used to support vital work for patients, families and carers of those affected by rare diseases. It will help to campaign on behalf of patients and their families, so they have access to appropriate and timely care, treatment and the information they need to manage their rare condition.
