Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Georgie and Ben have both lost Nephews to stillbirth. No mother should hear the words “I’m so sorry but there’s no heartbeat, your baby has died”.

We have been given the chance to do 2019 Prudential Ride London-Surrey 100 on August 4th. But instead of just riding 100 miles we will be riding too London also.

This is Georgie's sister story about Freddie .

On the 16th of September 2014 we started on a journey no parent should ever have to go on. I had had a lovely pregnancy up until 35 weeks when I was diagnosed with Obstetric Cholestasis, with this comes the risk of premature delivery and stillbirth, due to this I was booked in for an elective c-section at 38 weeks. Everything continued to progress well until the 16th September, we had a lovely day out in the city shopping for baby bits, on the way home I suddenly had a thought that I hadn’t felt my little man move and I could not think when I last had felt him. We got home and I called the delivery unit, I was told to take a shower, have something cold to drink, eat and see if I felt anything, an hour later I called again and asked to come in to be checked, as we sat in the waiting room with two other mothers who were in early labour I had no idea of what was about to happen. A lovely lady came to see us, she tried to find Freddie’s heartbeat but there was nothing, as she went to get another ultrasound machine I looked at Justin and said he’s gone, I knew, I had known for the last few hours that he had passed away, as they tried to locate his heartbeat I held my breath praying for anything, a little flicker that would give hope, unfortunately that wasn’t to be and we heard those awful words that will always haunt me.

Sadly, the death of a baby isn’t rare. The UK ranks 33rd out of 35 high income countries, making it the 3rd highest stillbirth rate in the developed world.

In 2015, the latest given statistics, around 9 babies were stillborn every day. In the same year, around 6 babies were lost to neonatal death every day. Around a third of stillbirths happen after 37 weeks, when the baby is deemed full term.

Around half of women experiencing a stillbirth perceived a reduction in fetal movement prior to diagnosis.

While there isn’t one cause of stillbirth, a decrease in fetal movement can be a key warning sign that a baby is in distress and early delivery could save nearly a third of stillborn babies.

Both families will now forever have certain dates in the year where another little person should of been. If we can just raise some more money to help this amazing charity, it may just help other families going through this.

Thank you
