Story
THANK YOU to everybody who have shared, donated and contributed. For those who haven’t, please let your heart over rule your head and help others who are in desperate need. James Ivor Jones had to take his own life away in July 2015 knowing it was the only means of escape for the condition he suffered. Please help me raise awareness and further funding so researchers find a cure. Nobody deserves to suffer this agonizing condition and be tortured in this cruel way. British Tinnitus Association rely entirely on generosity of members and supporters and receive no government funding. Please read, share, support and donate x
It all started with a simple ringing in the ears which slowly crept into his life. Soon after, the ringing increased in severity from slight to catastrophic disharmonious and painful noise. Six months of suffering a titanic internal struggle as a result of chronic Tinnitus and Hyperacusis. Five simultaneous sounds of extreme screeching, whistling, humming, buzzing and roaring every second of every day. This along with little or no sleep, suffering extreme insomnia can send anyone into a state of despair.
As well as suffering with tinnitus James also suffered hypersensitivity / Hyperacusis all linked to tinnitus. This is an extreme aversion and hypersensitivity to sounds that are generally not an issue to others. Sounds of everyday life become intrusively loud, uncomfortable and painful. Normal soft background noises become almost deafening. Due to Hyperacusis the nervous system is so stimulated due to being so burnt out, stressed and anxious that even the sound of a plastic bag hurts.
This condition created withdrawal from social and professional activities and James Ivor became isolated. This further exacerbated him and he became fearful, anxious, stressed and depressed.
This condition also had a dramatic impact on the family and friends of James Ivor as we felt extremely helpless throughout these difficult times as all we could do was remain positive.
One in ten of us suffer from tinnitus and one in ten of those sufferers can develop chronic tinnitus.
This condition is wide spread and poorly understood with no known cure to date. It is not a disease that cause organs to fail but a disease that torments you with agonizing conditions.
Only a chronic Tinnitus and Hyperacusis sufferer will be able to sympathize and understand the true desperation sufferers alike go through.
