Story

So, the new decade has begun and have decided to have another year of charity events
throughout the year to raise money for a worthwhile cause. As many of you know,
I am an ex-serviceman and the charity I have chosen this year is Broughton
House Veterans Home. Broughton House was established in 1916 to provide
treatment to the thousands of soldiers returning from the trenches of World War
1 and has now evolved in to a dedicated charity and nursing home for veterans
living out their remaining years, amongst friends and with a team around them
who are committed to serving all of those who have served their country. I
always look to pick a charity that I have a personal connection with and
Broughton House is no different – the reason that I have chosen Broughton House
is because one of my ex-RAF colleagues and his family are heavily involved with providing care for the veterans there.

So here are my
challenges for 2020, the year that I turn 50! :

Herio Newport Sportive – 3rd May starting gently with a 50km ride with only 1000
ft of climbing

Cardiff to Bath Cycle Ride – 15th May – 120km ride with 3500 feet of climbing

27th,28th, 29th June  cycling in Majorca, taking on the challenges of Sa Collabra, the Lighthouse and others that will test my legs! In excess of 6000ft of climbing over the 3 days

Newport Triathlon – 13th September – the super sprint distance

Red Bull 25 hour endurance race at Windsor park – part of a 4 person team that has to have one bike on track at all times

North Norfolk Sportive – 1st November – 85km ride - its Norfolk, so not much climbing!

To cycle in excess of 10,000 km during 2020, which equates to an average of 192 per week!
