WHERE AM I GOING ?

The Kagera Region located in the north-western corner of Tanzania.   Situated on the shore of Lake Victoria, the capital Bukoba lies only 1 degree south of the equator and is Tanzania's second largest port on the lake. Kagera is comprised of five administrative districts: Bukoba, Muleba, Karagwe, Ngara and Biharamulo. The region neighbours Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi and lies across the lake from Kenya

 

HOW LONG IS THE PLACEMENT ?

 

I will be in Kagera Tanzania for 3 months.

 

WHAT WILL I BE DOING ?

 

All of us volunteers will be working in one of the regions nine primary schools, working closely with assigned teachers at the schools.

All the activities that the volunteers will be implementing will be contributing towards the National Poverty Reduction Strategy and the VSO Tanzania Country Education Strategy.

Volunteers will mainly work with standard 4 to 6 students. With activities including:

Wall painting:

• Volunteers will be expected to draw pictures on school walls which will be used as teaching aids by teachers in the schools, where volunteers work.
• Volunteers will be assigned a teacher who will work with them in each and every school where they will be placed.

Sports:

• Volunteers will be expected to do sports activities with the children, which will create awareness of, and promote, inclusive education.
• Teaching children new sports activities.
• Organising sports competitions between neighboring schools.

Reproductive Health and Gender:

• Volunteers will create awareness on reproductive health issues, including body anatomy, HIV and AIDS, Sexually Transmitted infections and issues related to gender based violence, hygiene and sanitary.

Environmental Hygiene:

• Volunteers will create awareness on Environmental Hygiene.
