Story
My son Freddie was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma (bone cancer) in May 2015, aged 7. Since then we have been supported by a variety of charities and services but the Beads of Courage programme (operated by Be Child Cancer Aware) has been a real help to Freddie tackling the inevitable unpleasant aspects of cancer treatment.
Each time Freddie has to go through something nasty he earns a bead: chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgery, blood transfusions and so on. Different things get different beads and Freddie has enjoyed the variety of beads he has earned so far (770 beads and counting....)
The Beads of Courage programme isn't well funded so we're keen to put something back in.
I signed up to the Alder Hey 10k run because the posters around the hospital convinced me it was a good idea. Freddie and his brother and sister decided to increase the difficulty level and have insisted that I run in the Homer Simpson outfit they got me for Father's Day.
So, dressed in completely inappropriate running gear, I'll be sweating my way round a Liverpool park raising money for the charity which has been a shining light during Freddie's treatment.
Anything you can donate will help to fund more and more beads to keep sick children smiling as they endure all the rubbish things their illness brings.
Thank you
Dave
