In our part of the world we were worrying about the Millenium Bug: What would happen to countless millions of electronic devices as the date rolled over from “99” to “00” ?

It didn’t turn out to be that big a deal - but I was affected by another bug that year as I headed to Kenya to spend my summer working with orphans and disadvantaged children in one of Nairobi’s children’s homes. I returned the following year for a similar challenge.

Fast forward nearly 20 years and I’ve now got my own family to look after - but recently an opportunity came along to contribute towards another “Kenya Challenge” and I remembered the bug - that realisation that in the UK we are blessed with way more than we need and that by giving a couple of weeks of my time I can make a small difference for a small number of children: And that’s better than doing nothing.

And so this coming July my plan is to climb Mount Kenya as part of a fund-raising group and then to spend a few days near Nairobi visiting the projects that we are raising money for. If you can donate any small or large amount to this challenge (or even a small amount every month for the next few months) I’ll do my bit to get up the mountain and then to post some pictures online of the projects that you are supporting.
