Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On Saturday April 26th, we will be taking part in the Warrior Adrenaline Race, raising funds for "The Primrose Unit"

The race is held at Dunstable Downs in Bedfordshire and the course is designed by army PT instructors and includes a number obstacles that have to be taken on and beaten. This is not a race- it is a challenge. http://www.warrioradrenalinerace.co.uk/  Marie will be running her first ever endurance type race and will be taking part in the 5K run, Dean will be doing his second WAR and taking part in the 10K run.

Obstacles for us to tackle along the way range from the giant steps and the zip line to the tunnels and water tank, with plenty of other climbing and sliding obstacles scattered along the hilly, muddy route over Dunstable Downs.

The obstacles and course are designed by our Ex-Army Physical Training Instructors who used similar courses to get our troops fit!

The Primrose Unit is a purpose built cancer treatment unit that opened at Bedford Hospital in 2003 providing high quality, clinical and support services. The unit offers a truly holistic service to all patients at each stage of their cancer journey – a journey that many of us would have experienced.

The Fund was set up in 1997 by Prof. Robert Thomas, Consultant Oncologist, primarily to conduct robust clinical trials, designed to further the quality of life and wellbeing of patients with cancer.

Working in collaboration with Cranfield, Oxford and Birmingham Universities, Macmillan Cancer Support, SkillsActive and Prostate Action, recent in-house trials and audits have included:

-development of a nail balm to prevent oncolysis (nail loss and disfigurement) during taxane-based chemotherapy

-development of  a food supplement for prostate cancer patients, to stabilise PSA

-development of a natural lip balm to prevent additional cold sores in immune-compromised patients

The money raised will continue to help Prof. Thomas conduct clinical trials and to send the nurses who work in the Primrose Unit on specialised training courses.
