We raise funds to support breast cancer patients

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I have decided to take on the challenge of running 5km a day in December to raise funds for Breast Friends and Family. They are a local organisation helping support those dealing with breast cancer.

My target is to raise enough money for at least one woman to have her eyebrows tattooed. This may not seem like a big deal but when faced with losing your hair whilst going through treatment I can only imagine you feel some of your identity has been taken away.  Something as simple as having your eyebrows tattooed can help give someone some self confidence and normality.

The reason I have chosen this particular charity is they have been supporting my amazing friend Liz through her treatment.  She is a very brave lady but is having some hard times with the effects of chemo.

My thought process behind this challenge is I hate running! It makes me feel rubbish, it makes me feel sick, it pushes me out of my comfort zone and I hate every minute of it. This however is nothing compared to what Liz and others need to endure during their treatment.

Please give share and donate whatever you can, thank you

About the charity

Breast Friends and Family support breast cancer patients at St John’s Hospital in Livingston, through diagnosis, treatment and recovery; to provide the little things that make a big difference. Breast Friends and Family has been setup by Hazel, her sister Mandy, mother Sylvia and daughter Holly. Hazel was diagnosed with breast cancer in June 2015 which shocked the family but the challenges this diagnosis brought were faced with a steely determination to keep life going as normal and provide Hazel with the support she needed through treatment and recovery. The family realised that patients are supported by a number of cancer charities, each one giving additional support that patients are not even aware that they need. They began fund raising, by dancing, running, walking, knitting, sewing and organising events in support of many cancer charities. Hazel was given lots of support from a local charity based at St John’s Hospital in Livingston. As she recovered she wanted to help and support this local charity so that others like her, having a breast cancer diagnosis, were helped in the way that she was. Sadly this charity is no longer running. Hazel and her family and friends are now determined to make sure that all patients diagnosed with breast cancer at St John’s, are given the kind of help they don’t even realise they need. Providing the little things that make a big difference.
