The Highland Cross is a Mountain Duathlon across Scotland from Loch Duich in the west to Beauly in the east. A 20 mile mountain run over the stunning Kintail and Affric Hills then onto the bike and a 30 mile blast all the way to Beauly.

This is my second running of the Highland Cross. My first having been in 2010 when I was part of a team with Doug Stewart and Kev Thorne. Sadly, Doug will not be with us this year. He was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in October 2010 and passed away in February 2011 after putting up a brave fight against this horrible disease. He would not give in, that was his way, his spirit. It must have been the case that he did the Cross in 2010 whilst having the disease.The Cross was not his only Duathlon that year. He was still training and organising in September 2010. Remarkable indeed.

This year it is my honour to participate with Dougs' sister Seonaid and her partner Keith. They are making the long trek all the way from Sydney, Australia to be there. We will be a team of Four ...... three in body and one in spirit .........
