Story

I am running 11 half marathons and two marathons ...200 miles for Hospice UK.

The final event will be in April 2017 - when I will be fulfilling a dream - taking part in the London Marathon for Hospice UK. This is a charity very close to my heart and I will be running it in memory of special people and those who I have cared for.

I was first touched by the care provided by Hospices when Butterwick Hospice cared for my step-mum Sheila who we sadly lost in 2001.

In 2004 I started medical school in Leeds and experienced being on the other side and was providing the care. In 2013 as part of my junior doctor training I chose to work in Palliative care - based at St Christopher's Hospice in Crystal Palace.

St Christopher's Hospice was founded in 1967 and was the first hospice in the world. A holistic approach, caring for a patient’s physical, spiritual and psychological wellbeing, marked a new beginning, not only for the care of the dying but for the practice of medicine as a whole. I had the privilege of working there, alongside an incredible team that ensured people received the best possible care during one of the most difficult times - the end of life.  I am looking forward to pursuing my passion for palliative care in my role as the GP Palliative Care Lead at Herne Hill Group Practice.

Many of you will have had the pleasure of knowing Kathryn Taylor - who was my best friend Anna's mum. Kathryn was one of the kindest, bravest and generous  people that you could meet. She was sadly lost not that long ago, after a long battle with cancer. Towards the end of her battle she was cared for at Butterwick Hospice. I know the compassion and support received by Kath and her family make this a charity close to their hearts also.

So...     in April 2017 -- I will be fulfilling one of my dreams to run the London Marathon for Hospice UK. The charity supports all hospices in the U.K and is aiding the development of hospices internationally. I will be running in memory of the legend - Kathryn Taylor who I know will help me to kick-ass on the race day! For my step-Mum Sheila and for my patients.

Any donations welcome big or small. All proceeds will help to push me through the ruddy inclines, "the wall" and achieve my target of sub 3hr 40mins

Thank you!
