Story
In Summer 2017, we planned to trek to Everest Base Camp (EBC) the following year (2018). The decision to raise money for the nominated charities was influenced by the following events:
- In August 2017 Scott's father was diagnosed with CLL, a form of leukaemia. For this reason we have chosen Leukaemia and Lymphoma NI, which is the only Northern Irish charity devoted to finding a cure and cause for blood cancers.
- In February 2018 we lost a mutual close friend, Ben Finch. Since Ben's death, his family have been supported by PIPS (Public Initiative for the Prevention of Suicide and Self Harm) and have themselves been involved with further fundraising for the charity. PIPS is also a Northern Irish based charity, raising the awareness of suicide & providing support for families and friends.
We just wanted to let you know that the trek is entirely self funded and as a result 100% of received donations will be received by the two nominated charities.
As JustGiving do not have any means to fundraise for two different charities on the same page we have set up a second fundraising page which can be found at:
https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/ebcleukaemia
We plan to split the raised money equally between the two charities so we would be grateful if you could try to keep donations equal on both pages, however, all donations to either charity will be very much appreciated!
We leave for Nepal on 24th September 2018. The trek itself is a 14 day round trip and plan to begin the trek on the 26th September, reaching basecamp on Friday 5th October (...hopefully still 2018) and returning back home on the 15th October.
Thank you for taking the time to read about the trip and thank you in advance for any donations, we are extremely grateful for every donation, large or small.
If you could make sure to add gift aid as well folks then that is basically free money to the charity, doesn’t cost you any extra but raises a little extra money!
Thank you!
Scott and Bob.
